Whether you are a first time attendee or a seasoned Alumnus, a pre-camp, 1 on 1, 30-minute PEP (Personal Education Plan) session helps you make the most out of your Moose Camp experience! Everybody needs one, because this is no one size fits all program, and everyone’s journey in clowning is different every year. Tricia Manuel (aka Pricilla Mooseburger/Miss Moose - the founder Moose Camp) takes the time to chat with each and every person that comes to camp, answer their questions, and make a personalized plan for their course and workshops for the week.
Interests and goals in clowning cover a lot of subjects. Moose Camp has developed a winning combination of Courses in the morning and Workshops in the afternoon. A Course is a focused 9-hour, morning intensive, spread over the week where you study with the same small group of people and instructor to build skills through the week. In the afternoon, a great selection of hour-long Workshops in all different kinds of topics allows you to pick and choose to fill out and vary your learning time. Sometimes it just takes a funny prop! Moose Camp has wonderful shop available for you to play and explore. Make a crazy kazoo horn for the show, a prop for your gag, a walk around prop to take home, or simply come play and get inspired! Knowledgeable staff is on hand to teach you how to glue this to that, show you how it works, and then some!
Moose Camp culminates with a free clown show for the public, starring you and your fellow clowns! Our Alumni say the All Star Clown Show is the highlight of their week. Rehearsal is half the fun! We believe you learn by doing and by example. Each day you will meet with your coach and the others in the gag you are in. Your coach will help you be ready to put on the best performance show night! Backdrops, sound effects, script, big props, specialty costumes ... everything is provided for you. From beginner to seasoned professional we have the routine and tools to help you succeed! Adults like you! Camp is for adults 17 and older. We have programs for folks who have NEVER put make-up on before. Long time clowns come to brush up on new skills and get their batteries recharged.
Moose Camp is held at a facility designed for disabled adults and has modern, fully equipped, air-conditioned cabins in the Minnesota woods. That means everything is on one level and fully accessible. Rooms are dual occupancy and each cabin has two big bathrooms to share. A limited number of single rooms are available. Many Campers find they make lasting friendships with their cabin mates and often come back year after year to be together! Keep your eyes open; you might see a bald eagle soaring by!
Pay in full or with our easy monthly payment plan. Once you register and make your deposit, we’ll divide your balance into monthly payments through May 1st. For those that may have trouble flying into Minnesota by noon on camp day, we have arranged a discount at a hotel by the airport (we call it the Early Bird Hotel). Reserve a spot on the Moose Camp Shuttle Bus and we will pick you up from the airport, or the hotel, and bring you to camp. Details will be provided on travel. Every year we give away a number of scholarships to assist clowns in their journey to become the best clown they can be. The Claudia Nilson Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of our friend, Claudia Nilson.
